In Nipponpetroleum (in Negishi, suburbs of Yokohama) of Japan, the country’s first commercial IGCC is running. The plant uses an oxygen blast blower, direct chiller cooling type cascade bed gasifier made by Chevron Texaco Company. Asphalt and low sulfur residue can be used as the gasifying raw materials. Low calorific value of the synthesis gas is 11177kJ / Nm3. Driving force part adopts a modified Mitsubishi M701F uniaxial gas turbine combined cycle unit, which includes a waste heat boiler with vertical layout and a steam turbine. When the synthesis gas combusts, the gross power of the combined cycle unit is 433MW, and the net power is 348MW. Consumption rate of the plant electricity is 19.63%. Gross power of the Power plant is 46.9%. The successful design and operation of GCC technology in Negishi plant broke a new ground for the petrochemical enterprises in Japanese. Now in the world, there are about 30 samples of IGCC power plants, including the plants that has been built, is building, and will build, and with a total capacity of more than 8,200,000 kilowatts, of which the United States owns 15 sets. IGCC technology development in China In 1979,China began to study the project and intended to build IGCC demonstration project in Suzhou (project code is 296). But in 1983, the project had to stop for various reasons. In 1994, China started the research and preparatory work of IGCC demonstration project once again. Under the leading of National Committee composed of third department and third leading group, relative departments have completed the technical feasibility research of IGCC and a preliminary feasibility study of demonstration project, which identified a demonstration project technology roadmap, organized a tender to import technology. At present, IGCC technology exploited and built by our country has been up to a new course. In the “Eleventh Five-Year” 863 plan, there are demonstrating projects of multi-unite industry with the coal gasification as basic. Among the projects, 16 items are very important (country technology development high word [2007]134 No.). The point is there are 3 of the 16 items are related to the exploitation of IGCC. They were born by Dongguan Electro-chemical Industry Company Limited (120MW and 200MW), China Huadian Corporation (200MW), China Huaneng Group (250MW) respectively. 1. IGCC Technology Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (is called IGCC simply), is a kind of clean, high efficiency and advanced power generation system whose fuel is coal. This system is also suitable for combined heat and liquid fuels, such as methanol, dimethyl ether, acetic acid, dimethyl carbonate, and other coal chemical products. IGCC is an advanced power system and also a combination of coal gasification technology and highly efficient combined-cycle system. It consists of two major parts. They are coal gasification and gas purification part and fuel gas - steam combined cycle power generation part. The major facilities in the first part of are coal gasifier, air separation plant and gas purification equipment (including sulfur recovery unit). The major facilities in the second part are gas turbine power generation system, waste heat boiler and steam turbine power generation system. IGCC process is as follows: coal is gasified to be mid-low calorific value coal gas, after the purification to remove the sulfides, nitrides, dust and other pollutants in it, the coal gas becomes into clean gaseous fuel, and then is sent into the combustion chamber of gas turbine for combustion. Heated working media of gas to drive gas turbine for power, exhausted smoke of the gas turbine will go into and heat the wasted heat boiler which contains water, then the superheated steam produced to drive the steam turbine for power. 2. Development of IGCC technology at abroad 2.1 Summary of IGCC’s development in European In 1972, the first IGCC demonstration power plant in the world is putted into operation at Stiklestad power station in Lunen city of Germany. The gasifier adopted is Lurgi gasifier whose technology is not advanced and the running condition is not very good, so that the test is failed.
